Rehabilitation

Our rehabilitation services help you to recover quickly from surgery or from injuries suffered at home, at the workplace or elsewhere.  We are devoted to getting you back home as quickly as possible.  

PHYSICAL THERAPY

The role of the physical therapist and the physical therapist assistant is h health promotion, prevention of physical disabilities and rehabilitation. Treatment interventions include:

  • Gait training
  • Therapeutic exercise for strength
  • Endurance and range of motion
  • Balance and coordination training
  • Positioning protocols
  • Prescriptions for mobility and ambulatory aids
  • Wound healing protocols
  • Neurological retraining and muscle re-education
  • Edema control
  • Prosthesis and orthotics
  • Customized seating evaluations

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

    The role of the occupational therapist and the occupational therapy assistant is to facilitate both balance and optimal performance of occupational skills, such as self-care, work, rest and leisure activities. Elements which effect occupational performance include fine and gross motor function, sensory integrative function, cognitive function and psychosocial function. Treatment interventions include:

  • Education in energy conservation and work simplification
  • Increasing independence in activities of daily living through the use of adaptive/assistive devices
  • Teaching compensatory techniques, especially for visually impaired individuals
  • Fabrication of customized splints to stabilize joints, reduce pain or prevent deformity
  • Sensory re-education
  • Safety education
  • Coping skills and stress management


SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY

    The role of the speech-language pathologist is to help optimize communication and swallowing abilities. Treatment interventions include:

  • Enhancing swallowing abilities through practice in compensatory strategies and modifying food consistencies
  • Improving, understanding and enhancing expression of verbal and written language by participating in functional communication tasks
  • Improving cognitive communication skills (memory, problem solving, reasoning, safety, judgment) to promote independence
  • Improving voice and speech quality through increasing breath support, articulation, muscle strength, and appropriate rate and loudness
  • Helping to maximize hearing and providing information and counseling regarding hearing loss
  • Providing caregiver training
